Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland clashed in singles action for the first time ever on the February 18 edition of AEW Dynamite, and the main event ultimately ended with Omega being written off TV.
Omega fell in defeat to Swerve after a 20-minute match and Strickland turned heel following the contest, attacking The Best Bout Machine after the bell and putting him through the announce table with a Vertebreaker.
There was some surprise that Kenny Omega vs. Swerve Strickland wasn't saved for All Elite Wrestling's Revolution pay-per-view on Sunday, March 25. The match took place on Dynamite, though, as Kenny Omega has a scheduling conflict, which he informed AEW about months ago, Fightful Select has reported.
This ultimately means Kenny Omega isn't planned to wrestle at AEW Revolution, according to Fightful, although he may still make an appearance at the pay-per-view. Ahead of Revolution, Omega is scheduled to be in Japan as he will be a special guest host of Capcom Cup 12, which will be held from March 11 until March 14 in Tokyo.
Dave Meltzer has noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Omega was trying to change his Capcom plans so he could wrestle at Revolution, but it is unclear if he succeeded.
"Omega is under contract to do that Capcom thing at Sumo Hall that week, but I know as of a week ago he was trying to get off to where he could wrestle on the pay-per-view. I don't know that he did," Meltzer said.
While he won't be challenging for the AEW World Championship in the immediate future, Kenny Omega noted to the fans inside the arena in Sacramento, California after Dynamite went off the air that he will continue his pursuit of the belt when he returns.
