Zack Sabre Jr celebrating after victory

On the road to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025, which takes place on August 24,  the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands.

At NJPW’s Tanahashi Jam event at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, Zack Sabre Jr reclaimed the gold from Hirooki Goto - the man who originally defeated him for the gold back at New Beginning In Osaka in February.

ZSJ has been pursuing the title in the months since, with the pair wrestling to a draw at Resurgence 2025 last month when battling over the gold. As part of the double main event at Tanahashi Jam, ZSJ picked up the victory via submission to win back the prize, holding NJPW’s biggest title for the second time in his career.

This title change may come due to the aforementioned Forbidden Door event in August, which takes place in ZSJ’s home country of England as the PPV will be held at the O2 Arena in London.

Already announced for the PPV is Hiroshi Tanahashi, who will wrestle in his final ever match in the UK at the event.
