Jacob Fatu (c) def. LA Knight, Drew McIntyre & Damian Priest - Four-Way for the WWE United States Championship
All four men instantly started brawling when the bell rang and LA Knight was on top in the early going, taking out everyone with a range of moves, including a double Elbow to Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre. Knight and Priest then worked together with a High-Low to take down Jacob Fatu before they sent the United States Champion crashing into the ring post. The temporary alliance was then indeed temporary, crumbling after they dispatched of Fatu.
Drew McIntyre enjoyed time on top, hitting Neckbreakers to everyone. LA Knight then blocked a Claymore attempt, though. Fatu's battering then continued with a Frankensteiner from Damian Priest before he hit an Old School-Crossbody to McIntyre. Priest then smashed Fatu with a Lariat, turning the champion inside out.
Fatu finally hit some offence, driving Priest into the barricade. This led to a face-off between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu and they exchanged punches. Fatu eventually got the better of the exchange, levelling Irn Dru with a Pop-Up Samoan Drop before a Hip Attack in the corner.
Cool spot soon after as Drew was caught in the Tree of Woe but popped up and launched Jacob Fatu with a Belly to Belly Suplex from the top rope into LA Knight. Fatu no sold it and hit a Hip Attack to McIntyre before a Suicide Dive to Priest. Fatu then hit a Swanton to Drew, Knight hit a BFT to Fatu, Priest hit a South of Heaven to LA Knight, and Drew ended the sequence with a Claymore to Priest. Damian landed on Knight but McIntyre broke up the pin.
McIntyre hit Futureshock DDTs to Fatu and Knight before hitting the Claymore to Knight. Drew had the match won but Priest pulled the referee out of the ring, with Michael Cole pointing out that Priest had screwed Drew McIntyre once again. The two men brawled and threw each other over the barricade.
Jacob Fatu smelled an opportunity and worked over LA Knight but missed a Best Moonsault Ever. LA Knight then hit a Springboard Flying Elbow for a very close near fall. Priest and McIntyre decided to give up on trying to win as they spent time brawling through the crowd before Priest put him and McIntyre through a pile of tables with a South of Heaven. WWE medical rushed over to check on both men, with the match coming down to LA Knight and Jacob Fatu.
LA Knight was about to put Jacob Fatu through the announce table with a Flying Elbow but Solo Sikoa dragged Fatu to safety. LA Knight went after Sikoa but ran into a punch from the debuting Jeff Cobb, who proceeded to beat down LA Knight, with it being hinted that Sikoa had recruited Cobb without Fatu's knowledge.
Jacob Fatu looked very irritated and unsure when he recovered but he eventually focused on LA Knight, winning the match following the Best Moonsault Ever. Post-match, Fatu stormed off ahead of Sikoa and Cobb, choosing not to celebrate with them.
Lyra Valkyria (c) def. Becky Lynch - WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship
Lyra Valkyria put on a technical wrestling clinic in the early going until Becky Lynch fired back and quickly began to dominate, which included taunting Valkyria's fiancé LJ Cleary, who was sitting in the front row.
This only fired up Valkyria, who fought back with slaps and a Fisherman's Buster before an Enziguiri and Powerbomb for a near fall. Valkyria then hit a Delayed Superplex but Lynch kicked out again.
After a pinning exchange, Lynch tried to use the ropes for leverage but the referee spotted it. Lynch remained on top, though, hitting a Lariat for a two count. Valkyria changed the momentum and hit a Leg Drop from the top rope but Lynch kicked out again, being given time after Lyra was caught in two minds over a pin or Moonsault.
Valkyria went for a Moonsault but Becky got her knees up. Lynch later applied an Armbar before Valkyria applied an Armbar of her own. Becky then reversed into the Disarm-Her and hit the Manhandle Slam soon after. The fans in St. Louis thought that was hit but Valkyria kicked out at the last moment.
Lynch became infuriated and grabbed a steel chair. The referee grabbed the chair and got rid of it which provided the opening for Lynch to expose a turnbuckle. Valkyria hit a Moonsault but Lynch kicked out at two as it was the champion's turn to show her frustration.
Lynch sent Valkyria crashing into a covered turnbuckle before a second Manhandle Slam, only for Valkyria to kick out yet again. The referee then stopped Lynch from using the exposed turnbuckle and while the official went to put the turnbuckle cover back on, Valkyria hit Nightwing and had the match won. The official then dropped the cover and counted the pin but Lynch was able to kick out.
After an exchange of counters, Lynch hit a thumb to the eye and went for a third Manhandle Slam but the champion reversed into a pin for the victory. Lynch immediately attacked Valkyria after the match and locked in the Disarm-Her as Valkyria held her nose.
Dominik Mysterio (c) def. Penta - WWE Intercontinental Championship
An early Hurricana exchange between Dominik Mysterio and Penta before Dirty Dom hit a Suicide Dive into a DDT on the floor. What followed was several minutes of dominance from Dom until Penta hit a Crossbody from the top of the ring post to the floor.
Later, Mysterio missed a 619 and Penta followed up with a Crucifix Driver for a near fall. Dom then channelled his inner Liv Morgan with an Oblivion but Penta kicked out at two. Penta wasn't down for long and he fired back with a Canadian Destroyer on the apron.
With both men down, Carlito made his way to ringside and distracted the referee. This allowed JD McDonagh to grab Penta and Balor looked set to attack Penta but he spent an age grabbing a steel chair. By the time he retrieved the weapon, the referee had noticed what was going on and ejected the Judgment Day members, with Penta wiping them out with a Tope Con Hilo.
Finn Balor interfered again anyway which allowed El Grande Americano to appear from under the ring and headbutt Penta with the loaded mask. Mysterio capitalised with a Frog Splash for the pinfall win.
Gunther def. Pat McAfee
Ahead of the match, Michael Cole claimed for the first time in his career that he was going to be a biased announcer, seemingly forgetting about his years of being a biased heel commentator on WWE TV. McAfee stripped off before the match, drawing a loud roar from Cole.
Pat McAfee enjoyed himself in the opening moments, irritating Gunther. McAfee then fell while leaping over the top rope and recovered, running straight into a huge chop from the former World Heavyweight Champion. McAfee managed to rally and hit a flurry of weak chops before he received a mighty hand to the chest from Der Ring General.
What followed was several minutes of Gunther dominance as he repeatedly stared daggers at Michael Cole and halted any brief McAfee flurry, including a hulk up. McAfee eventually managed to rally, flooring Gunther following a Punt but the former WALTER just kicked out at one. McAfee hit another flurry with a Punt and Superkick but Gunther simply hit a Powerbomb, then stared at Michael Cole before he locked in the Boston Crab. Michael Cole then left the commentary desk and cheered on McAfee from ringside.
Gunther simply turned around and elbowed McAfee before he put his hands on Michael Cole and went for a Powerbomb before McAfee made the save with a big boot. McAfee got a two count with a roll up. McAfee then almost won after McAfee countered a Suplex and Michael Cole grabbed Gunther's leg, with Gunther kicking out at 2.9.
McAfee went for a Sleeper of all the moves, which Gunther quickly countered and followed up with a Lariat. One Sleeper from Gunther later and Der Ring General won by submission. Post-match, Gunther showed respect to Pat McAfee before walking off.
John Cena (c) def. Randy Orton - Undisputed WWE Championship
The main event began extremely slowly, including both men hitting each other with thumbs to the eye. Cena eventually decided to walk backstage, happy to take a count-out loss until Orton charged him down and dragged the champion back to the ring, only walking into a right hand from Cena.
Cena was briefly on top but Orton soon took control, slowly working over Cena. The crowd loved it anyway but they weren't so happy when Cena applied a sleeper. Cena later hit a Five Knuckle Shuffle and applied an STF, which Orton escaped and followed up with a Draping DDT.
Orton then listened to the voices in his head but whiffed on an RKO as Cena countered into an AA attempt, only for Orton to hit an RKO on his way down as the crowd chanted "This is awesome." After an exchange of punches, Cena suddenly hit an AA from out of nowhere but Orton kicked out at two.
Cena then went for the Five Moves of Doom but jumped straight into an RKO. Orton couldn't make the cover, though, as Cena rolled away from the challenger. Orton actually went for a Punt but missed and Cena followed up with another AA. The fans in St. Louis thought that may have been it but Randy kicked out.
Cena then mocked Orton, punching the ring mat before he went for a Punt. Cena missed and Orton went for an RKO which Cena blocked by pushing his opponent straight into the referee. Cena then hit another AA but the referee was down so Cena went and grabbed his title belt and walked straight into an RKO. The official recovered at this point but the slow count allowed Cena to kick out at 2.5.
As "Bullsh*t" chants filled the arena, Orton prepared the announce table and began arguing with the referee so Cena pushed Randy into the referee, knocking the official out again. Big Match John then tossed Orton straight into the ring post and went for an AA but Orton reversed into an AA of his own on the announce table, with the table collapsing after Cena had rolled off it. A table was then introduced to the match and Orton put Cena through the table with an AA.
Back in the ring, Orton hit another RKO and made a cover as another referee ran down, only for Cena to kick out. Feeling screwed, Orton complained as Cena went to use the belt and knocked out the new referee when Randy ducked. Orton then hit another RKO but there was no referee as Nick Aldis and a bunch of WWE producers checked on the officials for some reason but failed to bring out a new ref. An angry Orton took out his frustration on Aldis with an RKO before he had an RKO party on all the producers.
Orton went for another punt but R-Truth suddenly entered the ring and pleaded with Orton to stop. Orton took him out with an RKO but the lapse allowed Cena to recover, hit a Low Blow and a belt shot. After Cena made the cover, the first referee took an age to count the pin but Orton failed to kick out. John Cena is still the Undisputed WWE Champion to end Backlash.
