A major match between AEW World Champion MJF and TNA's Nic Nemeth was originally scheduled for Create A Pro's event on May 1 in Melville, New York, but the match was cancelled this week after TNA pulled their wrestlers from multiple independent wrestling shows because of what the promotion described as "partner conflicts."

Nic Nemeth addressed the match being scrapped on Youngstown Studio, giving insight into Carlos Silva's reasoning behind the change.

"So a lot of things happened at once. I was out of the country doing a couple of UK dates and I found out that a couple of different things were happening. Our president, Carlos Silva, is very open when it comes to a lot of things, behind-the-scenes deals, things people don't always know about, we put out there, he's very open to constantly being, 'Here’s why I can't do this thing,'" Nemeth began.

"We had a phone call, he said, because of certain deep into contractual obligations, certain companies might have crossover with certain other companies that we are with their rival, or a streaming service, or a cable company. He goes, 'Because of the situation, and it's debatable, and there's a few of them, we have to do the right thing now.' It's gonna be a hard choice, but long-term it covers their butts legally for everything."

The former Dolph Ziggler admitted he was crushed about the match being cancelled, adding:

"I'm crushed, obviously, because you can have the business aspect, you explained to me and showed me the legal basis of why we can't do this right now, but also the part where I was like, 'This is such a cool thing that's gonna happen.' Rarely you get these extra special cool moments, dudes from other companies, dudes from other generations, or in this case both, where you know it's going to be good, and big, and awesome and you just can't get it done, and I'm absolutely crushed, because I go, 'This is gonna be something special down the line.'"

All of the matches that TNA have blocked their wrestlers from working involved AEW talents. While the official statement from TNA noted it was due to "partner conflicts", people involved in the situation reportedly believe that WWE forced TNA's hand on the matter. TNA President Carlos Silva was also reportedly unhappy about AEW Collision and TNA Thursday Night IMPACT airing at the same time for one hour on April 2, although Collision moving from its usual Saturday night time slot was a Warner Bros. Discovery decision due to TNT's coverage of March Madness.

Tony Khan addressed TNA causing the indy matches to be cancelled on Ringer Wrestling.

"I was surprised because with MJF and Ricochet, they both talked to me about the matches. I said it was okay and they both told me everybody had gotten it approved. I guess somebody on the other side must've changed their mind, which is fine, they are entitled to do that. It doesn't really change what we're doing in AEW, but I know Max and Ricochet were both looking forward to their respective matches. I guess something might've changed. It sounds like it did. Hopefully, those guys are able to figure it out and put those together because the fans want to see those matches," Khan stated.
