RAW & SmackDown Spoilers From August 28 Tapings

With WWE taping Friday Night SmackDown in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada earlier this week following Monday Night RAW, this Friday was left free for WWE to tape both next week’s Monday Night RAW & SmackDown ahead of time. The promotion took over the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio for both red and blue main roster brands, with the shows featuring the finals of the luchadors contenders tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next challenger, plus a WWE Championship match. 

It was noted that WWE's taping schedule was to ensure members of the roster had some time off before their upcoming Mexico tour.

Monday Night RAW, August 31 

• Royce Keys & OTM attack The Usos backstage, running away before Jacob Fatu makes the save. Fatu arrived at ringside to declare war on the new faction, before trashing the ringside area. 
• Raquel Rodriguez (c) defeated Sol Ruca thanks to interference from Lyra Valkyria - Women’s Intercontinental Championship 
• Chad Gable cut a promo on the IC Title and his gratitude for people of Mexico, declaring he’d defend the gold in Mexico City. Gable selected Dragon Lee as his opponent before Ethan Page interrupted, leading to an impromptu number one contenders match.
• Dragon Lee defeated Ethan Page - Intercontinental Title Number One Contender 
• Roman Reigns cut a promo showing respect to Penta & Rey Fenix, before declaring no one in WWE respects him. He stated LA Knight & Solo Sikoa will eventually acknowledge him, prompting Knight to arrive, who ran down Reigns and called him “One Tremendous Coward”. Backstage, a bloodied Solo Sikoa was shown laid out next to Jacob Fatu, allowing Reigns an opening to take out Knight. 
• Je’Von Evans defeated Dominik Mysterio via disqualification. JD McDonagh attacks Evans before Joe Hendry made the save, leading to a tag team match.
• The Judgment Day defeated Joe Hendry & Je’Von Evans. 
• Stephanie Vaquer interrupted a Becky Lynch interview. 
• Penta defeated Rey Fenix, before Roman Reigns faced off with him to end the show - World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender 

Friday Night SmackDown, September 4 

• Gunther called out Sami Zayn, who came out to state that he wouldn’t let anyone earn a WWE Title match before he gets a shot himself. Finn Balor & Kevin Owens also came down to the ring to chase off Zayn. 
• CM Punk approached Johnny Gargano backstage, offering him a WWE Title match which led to him exiting his lifeless state and standing up to accept. 
• Charlotte Flair & Tatum Paxley defeated Fatal Influence 
• Paige & Nikki Bella agreed to a match in Mexico City. 
• Chelsea Green and Nick Aldis met in the ring, with it declared that Green was cleared to wrestle with a protective face mask. Nia Jax & Lash Legend interrupted, with it being announced that Green would defend the WWE Women’s Title in Mexico against Jax.
• Nia Jax defeated Tiffany Stratton
• Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki) defeated The Miz & Kit Wilson. Post-match, The MFTs stared down the new team. 
• Giulia attacked Blake Monroe, leading to a brawl in the arena.
• CM Punk (c) defeated Johnny Gargano - WWE Championship
