WWE are planning to use Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide as a developmental territory to NXT and the WWE main roster, according to a new report.
It was announced over WrestleMania 41 weekend that WWE and Fillip would acquire AAA, with the purchase set to be completed in the near future. The two companies have already become more integrated, with Jeremy Borash now serving as one of the key figures within AAA, while WWE hired "Moody" Jack Melendez to be involved with AAA creative. Savio Vega and Pete Dunne are also working for AAA as producers.
This integration is only set to continue and Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE want to focus on AAA's younger talents, with the goal being to move AAA wrestlers to NXT and the main roster.
To help with this goal, WWE are planning to construct a Performance Center in Mexico that will have both American and Mexican coaches. Ernesto Ocampo of Superluchas has also reported that plans are in place for a Mexico Performance Center to open in the summer of 2026.
"One of the things I know they want to do is get rid of a lot of the nostalgia acts and focus a lot more on younger guys. They want it to be a different style than NXT or WWE because they're trying to market it as something different for the American audience. But they want the wrestlers to all learn American style, learn to do English promos, because the idea is AAA, in their minds, is going to be akin to NXT Europe, NXT UK, where you have stuff, you have shows, but the goal is to get these guys to NXT and later WWE," Dave Meltzer said.
"So they don't want them to have to go to NXT and learn American style, they want them to know American style right from the start. Even though what they work will be kind of a combination of some lucha and some American style," he continued.
"They are going to open a Performance Center in Mexico. The idea right now is not to have an arena in the Performance Center, but just a Performance Center where they take independent wrestlers, young guys who they feel have a lot of promise on the independent scene, and try to teach them American style, AAA style, promos, character development, all of those things. They are going to have American instructors and Mexican instructors. The Mexican coaches are going to have to go to Orlando to learn how they do it in WWE so they teach them how they want them to do it in WWE."
