Friday Night SmackDown will soon no longer be a three-hour programme following the series' dalliance with a different format since the beginning of 2025.

SmackDown officially moved to three hours from January 3, 2025, but it was confirmed at the time by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque that the show would eventually revert back to being two hours.

It was reported several months ago that the plan was for SmackDown to switch back to two hours in June. In an update, Dave Meltzer has reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there has been talk of SmackDown moving back to its previous format from the Friday, June 6 episode. The date is yet to be etched in stone, but it is expected to be finalised this week.

SmackDown has traditionally been a two-hour show since debuting in April 1999. Many of the shows this year have been criticised, with the feeling being that the series airing for three hours has been a detriment, especially when compared to Raw, which has primarily stopped being a three-hour show since moving to Netflix in the new year.
