A new champion was crowned on WWE NXT after the NXT Heritage Cup Championship was recently vacated.
The semi-main event of NXT on The CW/Netflix saw Tony D'Angelo face former stablemate Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo for the vacant cup and both competitors were level at 1-1 as the fifth round began.
The finish saw Luca Crusifino accidentally strike D'Angelo with a bucket after Stack's associates tried to interfere when the referee was distracted. This allowed Stacks to suplex D'Angelo back into the ring and follow up with a Shining Wizard for the 2-1 win. An angry D'Angelo then laid out Crusifino after the match in anger.
Tuesday night's win secured Lorenzo his first singles title in WWE. He is a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, having held the belts for a combined 177 days with Tony D'Angelo between July 2023 and February 2024.
Noam Dar was previously the NXT Heritage Cup Champion but the title was declared vacant over the weekend due to an injury suffered by the former Meta-Four member.
