A WWE pitch during the COVID-19 pandemic would have seen the nWo be revived with a bunch of new members.
According to former WWE writer Chris Dunn, one idea discussed while WWE TV was being taped at the WWE Performance Center would have seen a new version of the nWo be introduced with Lars Sullivan, Sheamus, Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli), and Shinsuke Nakamura as the new founding members.
"A lot of ideas were thrown against the wall. It was discussed at one point bringing back the nWo, a new version. The pitch was Sheamus, Cesaro, Nakamura, and Lars Sullivan. It was really close to happening. I forget which legendary nWo member was supposed to fly to Orlando to introduce this new nWo. It wasn't X-Pac. Essentially, they landed and they didn't pass the COVID test. They were going to debut and it was going to be figured out as we go. This is when it was at the PC," Dunn stated on the Public Enemies podcast.
Which legendary member of the nWo would have introduced the new version of the stable is unknown, but Kevin Nash noted on X/Twitter that it wasn't going to be himself, Scott Hall or Sean Waltman.
"Never heard anything about it. Scott and @TheRealXPac and myself were out almost every weekend together. So it definitely wasn't one of us," Nash tweeted.
The nWo had 44 members across the numerous versions of the faction, from Hulk Hogan to Paul Wight to Scott Steiner. Some of the more infamous members included Disco Inferno, Horace Hogan, and David Flair.
Lars Sullivan spent eight years in WWE from 2013 until 2021, although he didn't debut on WWE TV until 2017. While often pushed, Sullivan repeatedly found himself at the centre of controversy during his main roster run, including it being discovered in May 2019 that he had made multiple homophobic, racist and misogynistic posts on a bodybuilding forum before he signed with the company. Just days after a return in October 2020, he was accused of sending inappropriate Instagram messages to a female.
Sheamus and Shinsuke Nakamura are still a part of WWE, while Claudio Castagnoli joined All Elite Wrestling in 2022. He is currently a part of the Death Riders faction.
