Goldberg slaps hands with fans as he walks to the ring at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

Goldberg has officially retired, with the WCW legend suffering defeat at the hands of GUNTHER at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line during the bout, and despite WWE’s proclivity in recent years to strap ‘Da Man’ with gold, a report from PWInsider states that Goldberg was always slated to lose his retirement match with ‘Der Ring General’.

What’s more, there was never any consideration in having Seth Rollins cash in his Money in the Bank contract on either GUNTHER or Goldberg. SNME itself aired as planned, save for the outcome of Rollins vs. LA Knight with Rollins originally slated to defeat Knight before an injury to Rollins forced a change in plans.

Whilst Goldberg rides off into the sunset, GUNTHER will be looking ahead to SummerSlam, with WWE believed to be starting GUNTHER’s story heading into the event within the next week or two. Plans for GUNTHER at ‘the biggest party of the Summer’ have been set in stone since before Saturday Night’s Main Event, and reports state these plans do not involve Seth Rollins.
