Theme music is an important part of any wrestler’s presentation. Get it right and it creates aura, but change it and it can lead to debate, if not outright rejection.

Throughout his career, Christian Cage has had many different theme songs, with his most fondly remembered being ‘Just Close Your Eyes’ during his singles run in WWE. However, there were two versions of the song, with the original by Waterproof Blonde eventually replaced by a cover by Story of the Year upon Christian’s return to WWE in 2009.

Fans have long wondered why such a needless change was made, with Fightful Select stating during a Fightful Select Answers Q&A session that it was a Vince McMahon call. The original Waterproof Blonde version had a female lead vocalist, with McMahon of the belief that a babyface male wrestler shouldn’t have a theme with female lead vocals, with the decision made to have it re-recorded by the male fronted Story of the Year.

Apparently, the decision to have Story of the Year - at the time a popular recording act - re-record the track cost significantly more than had WWE just relicensed the original.
