Brock Lesnar at WWE WrestleMania 42

Brock Lesnar appeared to retire from professional wrestling at WrestleMania 42, with the former WWE Champion leaving his MMA gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi. Lesnar also embraced Paul Heyman and waved to the crowd inside Allegiant Stadium as they chanted, "Thank you, Brock," before Lesnar and Heyman made their way backstage.

On the Raw after WrestleMania, there was a video package to celebrate Lesnar's career, while Paul Heyman put over his long-time friend, noting that Lesnar should be moved to the "Forever" section of the "Then. Now. Forever" opening for WWE TV because Lesnar would forever be the baddest man to ever step inside a WWE ring.

Bodyslam has reported that only a few people knew Lesnar would be removing his gloves and boots and leaving them in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania, with many being under the impression that he would retire later this year at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Despite Lesnar's post-match actions at WrestleMania, the belief within WWE is that Lesnar is not actually retired, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

"I will only say that based on people in WWE, they believe he's not retiring yet, although he is retiring at some point probably this year. I don't know that anyone knows. This might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple of people have mentioned it, that's the belief. We'll see. I'm not like saying that this is for sure because I don't know if anyone knows for sure," Meltzer stated.

It was also reported by Meltzer that the programme between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi was originally scheduled to be a multi-match feud before the plan was changed weeks ago to make the rivalry a one-and-done affair, with Femi defeating Lesnar in four minutes at WrestleMania.
