AEW Dynamite aired from the San Jose Civic in San Jose, California on Wednesday, March 11, but one of the promotion's commentators was absent from the show.

On the call for AEW Dynamite was Ian Riccaboni on play-by-play with Tony Schiavone and Bryan Danielson on colour commentary. Riccaboni was ultimately a replacement for Excalibur, although it was not addressed during the show why Excalibur was absent from Dynamite.

According to PWInsider, Excalibur missed AEW Dynamite as he was sick and unable to work the taping. If the illness will force Excalibur to miss Sunday night's AEW Revolution pay-per-view from Los Angeles, California is unknown.

Excalibur is an AEW original and has been the play-by-play announcer for the promotion since the inaugural show, Double or Nothing 2019.

Excalibur is also a co-founder of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, but the indy company has been on hiatus since 2023 after Super Dragon announced his girlfriend was battling an aggressive form of cancer. Excalibur didn't rule out an eventual return for PWG in late 2025, though, noting there is "always a chance" the beloved indy promotion comes back.
