Chris Jericho returned to AEW programming on AEW Dynamite this week, with reports before the show emerging that his return was expected despite months of speculation that he was on his way to WWE. It soon emerged that Jericho & AEW had reportedly come to terms on a new contract, thereby keeping him in the promotion for the foreseeable future, with it believed unlikely that he’ll be in WWE any time soon, or perhaps ever. When it comes to Jericho’s potential move to WWE, more has been learned on what the company had planned if he did indeed return.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s plans for Chris Jericho would have seen him go on a retirement tour, with this being the only reason that the promotion wanted to bring him in. The idea was to build 2026 around the retirements of AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, and Chris Jericho, though it seems as though Jericho was not interested in pursuing this direction.
It was also noted that the AEW’s plans for Jericho will become “a lot more clear” in a couple of weeks once they are out of Canada.
