As of April, there were "semi-big" plans in the works for New Japan Pro-Wrestling's United Empire faction at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
United Empire wrestled at the April 8 episode of AEW Dynamite, first saving Will Ospreay from a Death Riders attack to open the show, before Callum Newman, Francesco Akira, and HENARE teamed with their stablemate to defeat the Death Riders of Jon Moxley, PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Daniel Garcia in a Chaos in Canada Match.
Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the United Empire's involvement on Dynamite was supposed to build to plans at Forbidden Door.
"I was told this directly that when they came in on that one TV, it was to build to Forbidden Door... The plan was at that time they would be involved with something semi-big at Forbidden Door," Meltzer said.
It is unknown if those plans will still happen, but United Empire's Callum Newman suffered what was believed to be a shoulder dislocation during his IWGP Heavyweight Title match against Yota Tsuji at Dominion. How long he will be out of action is currently up in the air and Newman will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will emanate from San Jose's SAP Center on Sunday, June 28. Matches announced for the show so far include Team Mark Briscoe vs. Team MJF in a Steel Cage Match, the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments, Kenny Omega vs. Zack Sabre Jr., and Thekla vs. Starlight Kid for the AEW Women's World Title.
