Shawn Chan, the alleged stalker of WWE wrestler Liv Morgan, has been found not guilty by reason of insanity on one charge of interstate domestic violence.

A trial was held on Monday at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, with Judge Mary S. Scriven issuing the ruling at a trial that lasted just over 30 minutes. Chan had previously waived his right to a jury trial, which allowed for the case to be determined by Scriven.

Shawn Chan was arrested on June 3, 2025 and indicted later that month on one charge of interstate domestic violence. He faced up to five years in prison. Chan was arrested after allegedly flying from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada to Orlando, Florida on May 26, 2025. He told customs that he would be staying at the WWE Performance Center and, a few days later, Chan allegedly travelled for several hours to Liv Morgan's home, circled the property several times, and entered the property through the backyard. Chan then tried to enter the house, trying the door handle and looking for a spare key. After waiting for two hours, Chan left a note and departed the residence.

Chan's note stated, in part: "It's me Shawn the guy you all hang out with on [name of gaming platform] online. You've been trying to contact me, or should I say reach out to me when I'm absent from that game. So who's the stalker huh?!  I NEVER said and did anything bad for over 10 years, yet you all dared hating me for no reason. I came here to pay just a friendly visit, nothing more. Yet, I'm the one who looks like a stalker thx to all of you. And you all think I'm going to have empathy, sympathy and care about any of you anymore? I will start talking and doing whatever I want despite all your shoosh finger faces that you all make.  Yea, I just wanted to let you know that I was here."

Chan then went to the WWE Performance Center on June 3, 2025 and was arrested outside of the facility by the FBI after WWE security recognised Chan and alerted the authorities.

Chan has been detained since his arrest. In the not guilty by reason of insanity verdict, it was noted the US Marshal Service will coordinate with ICE to release Chan into their custody. Chan will remain incarcerated in Hernando County, Florida until he can be transferred to ICE, at which point he will be deported back to Canada.

In psychological evaluations during his incarceration, two separate psychologists determined Chan was unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions, such was the severity of his mental illness. Chan was diagnosed with delusional disorder and adjustment disorder with depressed and anxious moods, and he was observed to experience "obsessions, delusions of grandeur, erotomania, and paranoia."

Chan noted that he had been hearing the voice of God since his early 20s, with the voice telling him what to do and what to say. Chan believed that Liv Morgan was his girlfriend and he travelled to her residence to check on her, he told psychologists.

"Mr. Chan reported that he believed a well-known professional wrestler was his significant other. He described traveling to Florida with the intention of contacting senior figures in professional wrestling through her and believed that visiting her residence was appropriate and justified. He stated that he left a letter at the front door of her home, slept on the porch, and attempted to enter the residence after hearing noises, believing he was checking on her safety. Mr. Chan endorsed beliefs involving a global conspiracy related to weapons and terrorism and described prominent entertainment figures as participating in efforts to combat this conspiracy. These beliefs were described as factual and accurate by Mr. Chan at the time of the offense."

Court documents noted that Chan was born in Hong Kong and noted in his psychological evaluation that he was physically punished and neglected as a child. After moving to Canada in 1990, Chan noted he felt alienated due to being the only Asian student in his school.

Prior to suffering from mental illness, it was determined that Chan "likely functioned at a high average level of general intellectual ability."
