John Cena continues his retirement tour, and a pitch has been made for a big time bout for the WWE Champion at Money in the Bank.

Now when you hear ‘John Cena’ and ‘Money in the Bank’ there will only be one opponent that comes to mind; CM Punk. The two had a legendary WWE Championship match at MITB 2011, and a report from PWInsider states that there have been pitches within WWE to run it back.

However, the report states that whilst Cena vs. Punk has been floated, it doesn’t look likely to take place at Money in the Bank on June 7, with it said the promotion will look to book Cena vs. Punk later in the year ‘when the timing is right’.

What has been floated for Money in the Bank 2025 is Cena working in some capacity with ally Travis Scott, with either a tag-team or six-man pitched, although no concrete plans have been revealed publicly. Scott is currently training to wrestle and helped Cena win his 17th world title at WrestleMania.

Cena has competed on seven Money in the Bank cards, working every iteration of the event from 2010 until 2016, with his last MITB PLE match seeing him take a loss to AJ Styles in singles competition.
