Issues have emerged between the National Wrestling Alliance and All Elite Wrestling due to Tony Khan's promotion trademarking 'AEW Shockwave' in September 2024.

NWA filed an opposition to the 'AEW Shockwave' trademark on June 5, with Billy Corgan's company claiming they have common law rights dating back to 2020. The National Wrestling Alliance previously aired one season of NWA Shockwave from December 2020.

NWA noted in their opposition filing that they sent a letter to AEW's legal team on September 26, 2024 demanding they abandon their plans to utilise the Shockwave term and to agree not to use any variation of the term. AEW have until July 15 to respond to the opposition.

All Elite Wrestling filed to trademark 'AEW Shockwave' on September 6, 2024. NWA then filed a trademark for 'NWA Shockwave' on September 24, 2024.

All Elite Wrestling held plans to launch AEW Shockwave as a possible new series in September 2024, with the promotion holding talks with multiple networks about the show. There were believed to be no plans for Shockwave by May 2025, though, with AEW's weekly programming consisting of Dynamite and Collision.
