One of the most acclaimed matches in the WWE tenures of both Jordynne Grace and Giulia thus far came during their respective runs in NXT when they battled on the June 6 edition of WWE’s developmental show to become the new number one contender to the NXT Women’s Championship. Unfortunately, those in WWE were not in the camp of fans who rejoiced over the quality of the matchup.
In an interview with Adrian Hernandez, Grace revealed that she and Giulia got into some murky waters with WWE higher ups due to the hard-hitting nature of the match and for using some banned moves.
“I’ll give you a little behind-the-scenes information, we got in trouble for that match. They just said it was too much. I do the Michinoku Driver — at the time, I did not know that they don’t do the Michinoku Driver from Japan here. They do the one where you sit the person out all the way. I didn’t know that was a thing until after this match. It was not taken very well but I loved the match. I love wrestling Giulia, she’s awesome. I cannot wait to wrestle her again. Those matches are really the best moments for me because that’s when the wrestlers really get to feel something, right? They feel like it’s real. It is real but it’s like real in that moment.”
Shortly following their match it was revealed in reports that WWE didn't want to normalise the bumps taken during their clash. It was noted in the lead-up to WrestleMania that Giulia was set for a title defense at the show, though this match was ultimately not booked for the card, with her missing WrestleMania 42 altogether.
