Backstage Notes On MJF's Shock MLW Appearance

MJF made a shock appearance at New York City's Melrose Ballroom on Thursday night as he surprisingly returned to Major League Wrestling at Summer of the Beasts.

After Mistico made his way to the ring to cut a promo, the CMLL legend suddenly had to fend off members of Contra Unit. After Mistico thought he had successfully done so, he was suddenly attacked from behind and sent to the mat with a low blow by another member of the faction, or so it appeared.

After the figure removed a Contra Unit mask and then a Mistico mask, it was revealed to be MJF. The former AEW World Champion then beat down Mistico some more before he said:

"Mistico, while you're down there holding your little la cucarachas, I need you to listen to me real quick. I ain't through with you yet, boy, not by a long shot. We're gonna wrestle again and when we do, I'm gonna beat you within an inch of your life, and that's after I'm done making a mockery of your country, your countrymen, and your company of CMLL."

The 29-year-old wasn't backstage at MLW Summer of the Beasts for long, with PWInsider reporting that MJF was snuck into the Melrose Ballroom around 10 minutes before his surprise appearance. Friedman then left the building right after his segment with Mistico.

MJF was previously a part of MLW from 2017 to 2020, during which he held the MLW World Middleweight Title and MLW World Tag Team Championships with Richard Holliday.

Friedman faced Mistico at AEW Grand Slam Mexico. Mistico won the match by DQ after MJF hit his opponent with a low blow right in front of the referee. MJF and the Hurt Syndicate then unmasked Mistico post-match in Arena México.

Speculation has suggested they could be set for a rematch at AEW All In, although MJF will look to qualify for the Casino Gauntlet at Dynamite 300.
