WWE SummerSlam featured the 'Ruse of the Century' as Seth Rollins faked an injury from the July 12 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event until SummerSlam, even walking around in public with crutches. This led to Rollins' reveal that he wasn't injured in the closing moments of SummerSlam before he cashed in on CM Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

This wasn't WWE's only strategy to fool the fans ahead of SummerSlam, though, as Cody Rhodes' tease of a heel turn was an intentional bit of misdirection aimed at WWE's more hardcore audience, WrestleVotes reported on WrestleVotes Radio. There are no plans for Rhodes to turn heel any time soon, however.

"There are currently no plans in the foreseeable future to turn Cody Rhodes heel. The recent wave of online speculation, some of which was intentionally fuelled by Cody himself, was a strategic bit of misdirection aimed at the more hardcore audience. We are told WWE has little interest in turning their biggest babyface into ‘a bad guy.’ One source even joked with us it would be awkward to see a smiling Cody Rhodes on Minute Maid packaging throughout thousands of grocery stores and gas stations here in North America whilst playing a villain on TV. So Cody Rhodes to remain a big time babyface for the foreseeable future," WrestleVotes said.

Rhodes served as more of the heel for his Undisputed WWE Title match with John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam, especially after Cena turned babyface on the go-home episode of SmackDown before the show. Rhodes ultimately won the championship to begin his second reign with the belt.
