One of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's top stars has attracted interest from within WWE.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, David Finlay has been discussed as a possible addition by WWE and people within NXT specifically are interested in signing the former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted, however, that negotiations between WWE and Finlay have not taken place.
David Finlay's contract with New Japan is expiring soon and he is considering his options in the United States as the 32-year-old is hoping to spend more time in America in 2026. NJPW are also hoping to retain Finlay, though.
David Finlay already has links to WWE as his father, Fit Finlay, is a long-time coach at the WWE Performance Center and his brother, Uriah Connors, is a wrestler featured on WWE NXT.
Finlay has been a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling since 2015, and he has been one of the promotion's top stars since becoming the fifth leader of Bullet Club in early 2023. The faction was officially dissolved and merged into Unbound Co. following Wrestle Kingdom 20, however.
Across his NJPW run, Finlay is a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, one-time NEVER Openweight Champion, one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and 2019 World Tag League winner with Juice Robinson, and one-time NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champion with Ricochet and Satoshi Kojima. Finlay also won the 2025 New Japan Cup.
