WWE Files 'SmackDown' Trademark For Title Belts

New trademarks related to the Friday Night SmackDown brand have been filed by WWE with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

WWE filed to trademark 'SmackDown' with USPTO on September 18 to be used for title belts. The following registration mark was used for the application: "IC 006: Trophies made primarily of common metal for use as awards, namely, championship trophy belts."

Why exactly WWE filed the new trademark for SmackDown title belts is unknown, but the company have been trying to trademark 'SmackDown' in relation to belts and merchandise since 2022, but the trademark has yet to be registered by USPTO, with WWE only filing a statement of use for that original application on September 18, 2026.

The new trademark has fuelled speculation that WWE could be set to revive title belts that include SmackDown and Raw branding, which was the case from 2016 until 2023 with SmackDown and Raw women's titles and SmackDown and Raw tag team titles.

While brand-exclusive championships remain in place, the women's belts were switched to the WWE Women's Championship and WWE Women's World Championship in 2023. The tag team titles were also changed from the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles composed of the Raw and SmackDown tag team title belts into the WWE Tag Team Championships and WWE World Tag Team Championships at 2024's WrestleMania XL.

WWE also sell SmackDown merchandise on WWE Shop, including SmackDown title belts, so the trademark could simply be in relation to that.

The current champions on WWE SmackDown are Sami Zayn as Undisputed WWE Champion, Trick Williams as United States Champion, Jacy Jayne as Women's United States Champion, and The MFTs as WWE Tag Team Champions.
