WWE Fans Chant For Alberto Del Rio At Mexico City Live Event

WWE held house shows in Mexico over the weekend, including a live event at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Saturday, July 26. Fans in attendance at the show expressed their support for Alberto El Patron (FKA Alberto Del Rio).

Rey Mysterio made an appearance at the event to cut a promo, with Mysterio still out of action due to an injury he suffered on the go-home episode of SmackDown before WrestleMania 41. Mysterio was forced to stop his promo, however, after the fans inside Arena CDMX began to loudly chant "Alberto", showing their support for the former Alberto Del Rio.

Alberto El Patron's status within pro wrestling is currently up in the air. The former AAA Mega Champion lost to El Mesias on July 25 in a match which forced him to leave Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Fightful Select has since reported that WWE sources believe El Patron is legitimately done with AAA. There are also no plans for Del Rio to be used by WWE, a stance the company has maintained since announcing the acquisition of AAA over WrestleMania weekend.

Alberto El Patron did sign a contract with WWE, but this was simply because of his AAA duties, and WWE have taken measures to avoid showcasing Del Rio. WWE even booked El Hijo del Vikingo to defeat him for the AAA Mega Championship and Vikingo retained the belt at Triplemania Regia.
