Update On Plans For MJF After Tony Khan Confirms He's Been Fighting Through Injuries

During the AEW Redemption 2026 pre-show media call, Tony Khan was asked to speak on the current absence of former AEW World Champion MJF confirming him to have been suffering through some major injuries in recent times. On the back of these comments, an update has been provided on MJF’s upcoming future plans on AEW programming. 

Khan’s comments on MJF saw him praise the former champion for his recent work, but noted that he’d been involved in some very hard-hitting matches. He also spoke on the roster depth in AEW which allowed the likes of MJF to take time off and heal up rather than pushing on through pain. He did reveal that MJF had been experiencing some big injuries; 

“In the case of an MJF, that's somebody that I hope is wrestling for decades and decades at a very top level. He's a very young man, and he's had some major injuries this year that he's been fighting through, to his credit. And I think it speaks highly of MJF, and I would not be the person out here praising and saying all the nice stuff if it wasn't true! So in MJF's case, I absolutely think he's been one of the great things about AEW in 2026, and I'm looking forward to MJF's return to AEW when he's back, which he will be back very soon, I'm sure. I'm grateful that the injuries he sustained are nothing that would keep him out really, really long term because as you know, there are other times in the sport, contrary to this, where people have injuries and they can alter careers sometimes. So I'm glad he's going to be okay because he's a very important wrestler in AEW, MJF. Whereas we've had other great stars that have had injuries that have kept them out in some cases years or indefinitely, this is nothing that bad. And he was definitely banged up, and he had some very hard-hitting matches.”

A report from Fightful Select revealed that while plans for AEW Redemption 2026 regarding MJF were unknown at this time, he is still expected to be factored into plans for AEW All In: London 2026 next month, so a return for MJF will likely come sooner rather than later.
