It was revealed over the last week that Kenny Omega vs. Swerve Strickland took place on the most recent edition of AEW Dynamite due to Omega being planned to miss the upcoming AEW Revolution 2026 PPV. This comes due to Omega having a busy schedule, currently being booked as the special guest host of Capcom Cup 12 in Japan, scheduled to be held from March 11 to 14 in Tokyo.
There was some talk of Omega attempting to rejig his schedule in order to become available for Revolution, and more of an update has emerged from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It is noted that Omega is trying to make a deal which would allow him to leave Japan on March 14 in order to make the PPV, which takes place on Sunday, March 15. As of this writing, Omega is still tied to the commitment, but is working to try and make the show.
AEW’s angle on Dynamite in which Strickland turned heel and hit a Vertebreaker on Omega through the announce table was done to ensure that Omega was not advertised or teased for Revolution in case he cannot make it.
