Excalibur hasn't ruled out an eventual revival of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, noting on What Happened When that there is "always a chance" the beloved independent wrestling promotion returns.
While discussing PWG's business model, which relied upon selling DVDs of their critically acclaimed events, Excalibur provided an update on the future of the California-based promotion.
"It was razor-thin margins the entire way. That's the best way to describe it. The fact that it became known as a place where, if you wanted to see Zack Sabre Jr. wrestle his first significant match in the US, you either had to buy a ticket or buy a DVD. Right up until the very end, did not want to do streaming or live distribution. The business model was the same," Excalibur said.
"A lot of that was Super Dragon's stubbornness. Stubbornness, genius, whatever you want to call it. It was that way until the end. I don't want to say the end because nothing has been made official. PWG has been on hiatus for a couple of years, but there is always a chance it could come back. Never say never. The business model didn't evolve all that much. That's why we were so desperate to sell every one of those 500 seats in Legion Hall."
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has been on hiatus since 2023 after co-founder Super Dragon announced he was taking a break due to his girlfriend battling an aggressive form of cancer.
PWG was founded in 2003 by Super Dragon, Excalibur, Disco Machine, Scott Lost, Top Gun Talwar, and Joey Ryan. The legendary indy promotion helped develop several of the top names of the past 2o years, including the likes of Kevin Owens, The Young Bucks, Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, Ricochet, and Keith Lee.
The Young Bucks have discussed potentially purchasing Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in recent years.
