Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin would have competed inside Wembley Stadium had they put pen to paper on contracts with All Elite Wrestling.

Motor City Machine Guns became free agents in March 2024 after they finished up with TNA, and both WWE and AEW were interested in signing Shelley and Sabin. The legendary tag team did hold talks with AEW and the plan for MCMG would have seen them face the Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Titles at All In, Fightful Select has reported.

Those plans fell apart in the summer of 2024 after talks went radio silent, with All Elite Wrestling assuming that Motor City Machine Guns would be joining WWE. This prompted AEW to pivot to the Young Bucks vs. FTR vs. The Acclaimed at All In.

It emerged in September 2024 that Motor City Machine Guns had signed with WWE. They debuted on the October 18 edition of Friday Night SmackDown and won the WWE Tag Team Titles one week later.

Following a 42-day reign with the WWE Tag Team Championships, Shelley and Sabin have remained in the SmackDown tag team division. They haven't won a match since April, however, and recently lost to the Wyatt Sicks.
