Despite escalating hostilities in the Middle East between Iran and the United States, plans for WWE Night of Champions are currently proceeding as planned.
Iran launched retaliatory strikes against the United States on Monday, firing missiles at an American air base in Qatar. Advanced warning of the attack was provided by Iran to the US and the attack caused no injuries, according to President Donald Trump.
The attack from Iran came after the United States launched missiles against three of Iran's nuclear sites on Saturday, June 21. Hostilities in the Middle East increased on June 13 after Israel launched surprise attacks against Iran, with both nations firing missiles at each other ever since.
Amidst the ongoing hostilities between nations close to Saudi Arabia, WWE are scheduled to travel to the Middle East on a chartered flight on Wednesday for the June 27 episode of SmackDown and Night of Champions on Saturday, June 28.
Fightful Select has reported that government meetings in Saudi Arabia took place on Monday and the government was still planning for Night of Champions to take place. Talent that Fightful has spoken to expect WWE are figuring things out like everyone else is.
Iran's retaliatory strikes did cause issues for several WWE staffers, with PWInsider reporting that five employees ended up stuck in Qatar after Qatari airspace was closed while they were waiting for a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia. The airspace has since reopened.
