Ricochet (real name Trevor Mann) was not forced to issue an apology over his 'MS' tweet by All Elite Wrestling or Warner Bros. Discovery, but AEW officials did tell Trevor Mann after the apology that it was the right thing to do, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has revealed.
Instead, a friend of Ricochet's called him and said he should probably take the tweet down, which he did, and he later decided to apologise, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
"What ended up happening was one of his friends called him and said, 'You really should take the tweet down.' So he took the tweet down, and upon thinking about it, he then apologised. Nobody forced this apology or anything like that. He decided to apologise and he did. She (Samantha Irvin) decided to deactivate her account because she was starting to get death threats. Not starting, but the messages were even more vile," Meltzer said.
Meltzer later noted that Ricochet "did not get anything negative from AEW" about the tweet. The former AEW National Champion, however, did not appear on the post-Revolution edition of Dynamite, nor was he mentioned on the show. Ricochet also didn't work the Collision Slam Dunk tapings on Wednesday night.
Ricochet found himself at the centre of a backlash on social media after he told a fan who criticised his acting skills on X/Twitter that he was glad they had multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
Ricochet received further criticism after he initially looked to defend himself and retweeted comments defending his actions, but he eventually apologised one day after his 'MS' post, writing: "I took out my hatred for the IWC on Sandi, and inadvertently others who are affected by MS. She didnt deserve it and for that, I sincerely apologize. Moving forward I'll do better."
Ricochet has been a part of AEW since All In 2024 and he has been one of the promotion's top heels, having feuded with the likes of Swerve Strickland and The Hurt Syndicate before he became the inaugural AEW National Champion.
