Rick Martel had the option to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame but he turned down the offer, the now-70-year-old has revealed.
After being asked about a potential WWE Hall of Fame induction, Martel told Prime Time with Sean Mooney: "I did a while back. I got a call but I wasn't ready. I'm not sure if I would go. Right now, I'm enjoying myself. I'm enjoying all of this. We'll see."
Rick Martel has long been cited as a wrestler who belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame but has yet to receive an induction, with Martel's WrestleMania VII opponent Jake 'The Snake' Roberts noting it was "a crying shame" that Martel had not received the honour.
Best known for his heel run as 'The Model' Rick Martel, he is a one-time AWA World Heavyweight Champion, three-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and one-time WCW World Television Champion across his in-ring career from 1973 until 1998.
Martel had two stints as part of the World Wrestling Federation, first from 1980 until 1982 and then from 1986 to 1995. He joined WCW in 1998 but Martel was struck by injury issues during his brief stint with the company which caused him to transition to a trainer role.
