Speculation emerged on Wednesday that EVIL's name within WWE might end up being Nox Raijin, with WWE filing to trademark the term with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 28.

Speculation circulated around it being EVIL's WWE name due to Raijin being the god of lightning, thunder, and storms in Japanese mythology, as well as the Shinto and Buddhist religions. EVIL may end up with a different name, however, as TC of WrestleVotes has reported that WWE have yet to decide upon a new name for EVIL.

EVIL made his WWE debut on the April 28 episode of NXT, although his new name was not revealed and he was simply referred to as a very evil wrestler. EVIL confronted NXT Champion Tony D'Angelo in his first appearance, handing Tony D the Japanese symbol of war. After EVIL headed backstage, Tavion Heights made his return and Will Kroos made his debut, with all three talents seemingly set to be involved in the NXT Title picture.

Reports have noted that EVIL began his WWE career in NXT at his own personal request. EVIL had previously spent his entire in-ring career as part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, performing for the company from 2011 until his contract expired at the end of January 2026.

EVIL was one of NJPW's top stars at the time of his departure and he is a one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, one-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, four-time NEVER Openweight Champion, two-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with SANADA, and six-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion.
