Report: WWE Possibly Booked Madison Square Garden Shows For WrestleMania 43 Weekend Due To AEW Plans

WrestleMania will be taking place outside of North America for the first time in show history in 2027 as WrestleMania 43 will emanate from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE will still have a presence on the continent during the April 2027 weekend, however, as it was announced during Saturday Night's Main Event that NXT Stand & Deliver, AAA Eternal Glory, and a WrestleMania 43 watch party would all be taking place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden over WrestleMania 43 weekend.

WWE booking so many events at New York City's Madison Square Garden may have been due to All Elite Wrestling's plans for that weekend, with Dave Meltzer noting on Wrestling Observer Radio that he had been under the impression AEW would be holding an event over WrestleMania 43 weekend, possibly in NYC.

"I had been under the impression that AEW was going to run, and possibly in New York. If they are going to run in New York, I mean, if you're putting an AEW show in the same market and they're going to run AAA and NXT at The Theater even at best they're going to get 4,000 people. It's really not going to hurt AEW significantly. It's something, if that's what the plan was," Meltzer said.

Tony Khan has expressed an interest in holding an AEW pay-per-view in the spring of 2027 in the United States due to WWE WrestleMania 43 airing from Saudi Arabia. Khan noted earlier this month to Q93 that it was "certainly something to consider."

All Elite Wrestling have never held an event at Madison Square Garden and the promotion have instead held events in New York City at Arthur Ashe Stadium or Louis Armstrong Stadium.

There were plans for AEW to air the premiere episode of Dynamite from Madison Square Garden in 2019 but MSG rescinded that offer "because it would really upset somebody." WWE have previously opposed other pro wrestling companies holding events at Madison Square Garden, including Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling's G1 Supercard in 2019 to the point WWE interfered to have the event briefly cancelled.
