Gunther makes his entrance for a match during a March 2025 live event

Coming out of WWE WrestleMania 42, Roman Reigns is your new World Heavyweight Champion, and it seems he is on a collision course with Gunther.

Reigns beat CM Punk for the title in night two’s main event, a night after Gunther put away Seth Rollins in singles action. Heading forward it seems as the two will cross paths for the title, but according to a report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio it may not be for a little while yet:

“The plan is Roman Reigns as champion against Gunther,” Meltzer said “That was as of a week ago, midweek even.”

Meltzer continued; “I don’t think it’s for Backlash, maybe SummerSlam, maybe something else,” adding “The only thing I was told, which I did know, is that Roman Reigns and Gunther was, as of like a week ago, a big direction that they thought was a big time major match.”

Reigns and Gunther have never wrestled in singles competition in WWE, with their only two matches together being the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match, and the 15-man three-team elimination bout between Team Raw, Team SmackDown, and Team NXT at WWE Survivor Series 2016.
