Ever since his loss to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada in an Unsanctioned match, former Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has been among the bigger names to remain absent from WWE programming on the road to Backlash 2026, not showing up on either Monday Night RAW or Friday Night SmackDown in recent weeks. The reasoning behind his absence has now been revealed.
McIntyre’s lack of presence on WWE programming is not due to a lack of creative plans for the upcoming Backlash PLE, but rather because McIntyre is currently busy with outside projects. PWInsider has revealed that McIntyre is currently back in his home country of Scotland to film the remainder of his scenes for the upcoming Highlander reboot.
It was revealed last year that McIntyre was cast in the movie to play the role of Angus, the older brother of Connor MacLeod (who will be played by starring actor Henry Cavill). Fellow former world champion Batista has also been cast for the movie, along with notable names in Russel Crowe, Karen Gillan, and Djimon Hounsou.
