Over this past week, it was revealed that former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay had officially parted ways with NJPW following the expiration of his contract with the company. This comes after reports suggested that WWE had shown some interest in signing David Finlay, son of Fit Finlay, with the two sides making some contact, though things had been silent on the situation “for weeks” per one report. On top of WWE’s interest in bringing him in, it was also noted that NJPW were working to try and re-sign Finlay.
It was reported by BodySlam.net recently that Finlay’s name had been brought up in creative discussions, with some seeds allegedly planted for Uriah Connors’ character (Finlay’s real life brother) in case WWE secures a deal with Finlay to bring him in. However, claims of WWE having Finlay directly in creative plans and discussion have been refuted.
Fightful Select has revealed that although there have been some contact between the new free agent and WWE, also stating that he is not factored into any creative plans at the present moment.
