Multiple altercations between WWE talents and fans took place at the company hotel during WrestleMania 42 weekend, it has been revealed.
It emerged as early as Wednesday, April 15 that WWE wrestlers were concerned about the lack of security at the company hotel for WrestleMania 42, with it being noted there was no additional security beyond the hotel's usual security team. Since the hotel was part of a major casino, this meant there was no way to restrict fans' access to WWE wrestlers staying at the hotel which resulted in fans waiting in the lobby, camping out at elevators and then mobbing anyone from WWE they encountered as they tried to get autographs and photos.
This treatment of WWE talents did not stop, though, and a clip on social media of CM Punk smacking a phone out of a fan's hand following night two of WrestleMania 42 has gone viral. The footage recorded by the fan has revealed they closely followed Bayley and AJ Lee while they were hugging, and Bayley even tried to stop the individual from filming before CM Punk knocked the phone away.
After the incident, hotel security stepped in, but PWInsider has noted this didn't happen for much of the weekend. Just minutes before CM Punk smacked away the phone, Damian Priest had to step in and help a female WWE talent get away from a group of fans trying to surround her for photos and autographs. Also during WrestleMania 42 weekend, a referee was nearly knocked over by a group of fans at the hotel, and footage of Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre being mobbed by fans at the company hotel has circulated on social media.
It was also noted that fans were able to wander into restricted areas, such was the lack of security for WWE talents. One fan told PWInsider they were able to go into a restricted area where they saw WWE talents rehearsing their WrestleMania matches at a ballroom in the hotel, seeing glimpses of wrestlers going over the Intercontinental Title Ladder Match.
Talent being mobbed by people looking to secure photos and autographs has been at the centre of controversy in recent years, with resellers often camping out at airports in the hopes of encountering WWE wrestlers arriving for TV tapings.
