MJF & Mistico To Have Title Vs. Mask Match

MJF and Mistico have been engaged in a feud for the last several months, with the expectation being that they’d have a match at a major show, potentially with Mistico’s mask on the line. This match is finally official, and it will take place at CMLL’s 92nd Anniversary show on September 19 next month in Arena Mexico. 

At CMLL’s Friday show, MJF successfully defended his newly won CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship against Zandokan Jr., marking his first defence of the gold after beating Averno earlier this month. In the aftermath of this match, MJF took Zandokan Jr’s mask to goad Mistico to emerge, which he did. The pair agreed to a match for CMLL’s 92nd Anniversary show, but only if Mistico put his mask on this line - something which he accepted. MJF shook Mistico’s hand before delivering a cheap shot, removing his mask, and draping the US flag over him. 

There was some talk amongst fans that this matchup could take place at Forbidden Door 2025, though it was revealed Mistico was already booked for a show that day. MJF will instead challenge for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door.
