Sin Cara may appear on WWE programming for the first time in several years with a new wrestler under the mask.

PWInsider has reported that early pitches have been made within WWE to revive the Sin Cara character. The current idea would be to put a new luchador under the mask should the idea progress past the pitches stage into an actual plan.

Sin Cara was originally portrayed by Mistico after the top star in Lucha Libre at the time opted to sign with WWE in 2011. Hunico (now Cinta de Oro) would be placed under the mask in August of 2011 due to Mistico serving a 30-day suspension for violating WWE's wellness policy. This would lead to a feud between the two Sin Caras upon Mistico's return, with Mistico Sin Cara winning a Mask vs. Mask Match in Mexico City on an October 2011 episode of SmackDown.

Mistico would continue to wrestle as Sin Cara but his run in WWE was largely a disaster and the two sides parted ways in early 2014. WWE recast Sin Cara even before Mistico's exit, with Hunico performing under the mask once again from December 2013. The luchador was featured as a singles talent and tag team wrestler as one-half of the Lucha Dragons until Sin Cara was granted his release in December 2019. Cinta de Oro later revealed that he requested his release after Paul Heyman - then executive director of WWE Raw - told him, "Sin Cara is dead."

Cinta de Oro has performed on the Mexican and United States independent wrestling scenes over the past seven years. Mistico, meanwhile, initially headed to AAA as Myzteziz before returning to CMLL in December 2015. He performed as Caristico before becoming Mistico once again in August of 2021 after Mistico II, who had used the gimmick since 2012, departed CMLL.

Speculation has suggested Mistico II, who has performed in All Elite Wrestling as Dralistico in All Elite Wrestling since 2022, might be the wrestler that ends up under the Sin Cara gimmick. Dralistico's contract with AEW is due to expire in December and, while AEW are reportedly planning to offer the luchador a new contract, his brother Dragon Lee recently signed a new five-year deal with WWE and hinted at a reunion with Dralistico by trademarking 'Hermanos Lee' earlier this year, the name of their 2022 tag team.
