Jim Ross has undergone successful brain surgery, JR's podcast co-host Conrad Thompson has announced.

The legendary announcer underwent surgery on Wednesday morning, with JR's daughter informing Thompson that "everything went well and good ole JR is expected to be back home by Friday!"

Jim Ross announced in July that he was due to undergo brain shunt surgery to remove excess fluid on his brain. The surgery involved a thin tube being implanted in Ross' brain, which would allow excess cerebrospinal fluid to flow through the shunt to another part of the body, often the stomach area. The fluid is then absorbed into the blood.

The excess fluid, which had affected JR's memory, was the reason for his month-long stay in hospital earlier this year. The 74-year-old has suffered from serious health issues in recent years, which included undergoing treatment for skin cancer. In the summer of 2025, Ross announced he was cancer-free.

Jim Ross is currently a part of All Elite Wrestling, although his contract is due to expire this month. JR has been signed to the company since 2019 and he put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension in August 2025.
