Tiger Jeet Singh - a legendary heel wrestler in Japan from 1973 until the mid-1990s - left a fan briefly hospitalised upon his return to the country after striking them with his sabre.

Singh returned to Japan for the first time in 14 years to serve as a special observer for the semi-main event of Megumi Kudo's 40th anniversary show in Tokyo on October 17 which saw Tatsumi Fujinami team with Masakatsu Funaki to defeat Mitsuya Nagai and Shiro Koshinaka.

Before the match got underway, Tiger Jeet Singh made his entrance with his son - Tiger Ali Singh - and his grandson. During the entrance, Singh rushed into the stands swinging his sword at the crowd. Sports Hochi noted that, while Singh was swinging the blade, he struck the forehead of a man in attendance at the show.

The strike left the fan bleeding and they were taken backstage and received emergency care before being transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The wound was not deep and the fan only suffered minor injuries. He received injections to prevent infection and he later went back to the venue of the event to pick up his car, before driving home.

Megumi Kodo apologised for the incident, but Tiger Jeet Singh was less bothered, blaming the incident on the fan while speaking with Tokyo Sports.

"It was a mistake for him to be in front of me. It’s his fault. You know that, right? All he had to do was get out of my way," Singh said (translated using DeepL).

Tiger Ali Singh, who wrestled for WWE from 1997 to 2002 and was briefly managed by his father, said about the incident: "The announcer was saying, 'Please be careful!' They were warning him it was dangerous, but he didn’t move out of the way. I’m sure he won’t make the same mistake again. Just like my father said, this was an accident."
