EXCLUSIVE: WWE Discusses Rebranding AAA To NXT Mexico

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide could be set for a rebrand following the promotion's acquisition by WWE.

WWE announced ahead of WrestleMania 41 that they had purchased AAA, with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H later noting WWE wanted to help Lucha Libre grow while saying they wanted to "keep traditional Lucha Libre as traditional Lucha Libre."

AAA may undergo a name change, however. According to sources, there have been conversations within WWE about rebranding AAA to WWE NXT Mexico. This is simply one option on the table as WWE considers AAA's future, however.

AAA and WWE NXT will collaborate later this year by holding a co-promoted show when WWE NXT x AAA Worlds Collide emanates from the KIA Forum in Los Angeles, California on June 7.

It has been reported that WWE were in talks over purchasing AAA for some time before finally completing the acquisition. An original plan would have seen a third party buy AAA and then sell the company to WWE, but WWE ultimately ended up directly acquiring the Mexican promotion.
