Drew McIntyre won't be back on WWE TV in the near future, with Deadline reporting that McIntyre has been cast in The Last Druid and filming is already underway on the project in Spain.
McIntyre's role in the film is unknown but it will tell the story of a Roman emperor who discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia, with Russell Crowe starring in the movie as a peaceful Celtic elder who must take up arms against the Roman Empire and protect his people from annihilation. The movie is being directed by William Eubank from a script produced by Eubank, Carlyle Eubank, and Phil Gawthorne.
PWInsider has reported that McIntyre has been circling several Hollywood projects and there has been nothing creatively on the table within WWE for the three-time WWE Champion.
Drew McIntyre has been away from WWE programming since losing to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match at WrestleMania 42. McIntyre has been absent due to filming his remaining scenes for the upcoming reboot of Highlander, with McIntyre featured in the movie as Angus MacLeod, the brother of protagonist Connor MacLeod, who will be portrayed by Henry Cavill.
Rumours emerged last week that McIntyre appeared to be on track to return for SummerSlam, with McIntyre's name appearing on an internal document this month in connection with WWE's major summer event. Reports had also noted that McIntyre was the backup plan for the World Heavyweight Championship match at Clash in Italy if Jacob Fatu was not cleared to perform after suffering an injury at a WWE house show just days before the pay-per-view.
