A couple of years ago, former WCW star Buff Bagwell was eyeing up a return to the ring, noting that he needed knee surgery before thinking about an in-ring return. He has since suffered from a variety of issues both medically and personally, leading up to a recent leg amputation surgery on July 10.

This all stems from a car accident in which he was driving under the influence, leading to his kneecap being caved in back in 2020, but was unable to go through a knee replacement surgery. Bagwell was jailed in 2025 due to this incident.

Bagwell spoke on Maven’s YouTube channel to discuss his leg amputation, noting that he didn’t need to have the surgery but it would’ve meant having a straight leg for the rest of his life. He is still not closing the door on an in-ring return at some point though.

“I want to get back in the ring, run the ropes, have a match. It’ll show that I came out of the darkness with this thing and I turned it around all the way to be back in the ring as Buff Bagwell. You don’t have to give up with something like this. I’m taking it by the horns and showing that you can have just as good of a life without a leg.”

Bagwell noted that he’s been sober and is getting his life back on track.
