Buddy Matthews has undergone surgery to repair his ankle, with the All Elite Wrestling star having been out of action for much of 2025.
The former House of Black member suffered an ankle injury ahead of a singles match against AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada at Grand Slam Australia in February 2025 and was originally targeting an April return, however the ankle did not heal as well as initially hoped, necessitating surgery.
Matthews posted a story on his Instagram page on August 7 alongside wife Rhea Ripley, with Matthews noting he was getting ready to head into the operating theatre.
The ankle injury was not a break, but rather ligament and cartilage damage, with the timing of the injury especially bad for Buddy as he had recently formed the Hounds of Hell alongside Brody King and Julia Hart. King is currently teaming with Bandido as Brodido, whilst Julia Hart is aligned with Thekla and Skye Blue as the Triangle of Madness in the women’s division.
Part of All Elite Wrestling since February 2022, Matthews is a former AEW World Trios Champion alongside Brody King and Malakai Black. There is no word on when Matthews is expected to return to AEW.
