Backstage Note On John Cena Being Hit By A Bottle At WWE SmackDown

During John Cena’s most recent promo on Friday Night SmackDown, which took place on May 9 at the Wright State University Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, a member of the WWE audience made the ridiculous decision to throw an empty beer bottle into the ring, which landed at Cena’s feet. Although Cena picked it up and played it into his performance, the fan was quickly accosted by security and kicked out of the arena, being booed out of the venue. 

PWInsider have made clear that despite Cena picking up the empty bottle, the spot was not planned and that the bottle-throwing man was immediately removed by security. Cena simply improvised on the spot rather than ignoring the bottle which landed at his feet, which led to some fans pondering over whether the whole thing was a work. 

Footage shared online by X user @KCWrestling05 showed the fan sitting a few rows back from ringside and being grabbed by security as he attempted to pick up another bottle. Even with the fan footage, it could have still been a work, but this is not the case.
