WWE headed to the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio last night for Friday Night SmackDown, which served as the go-home show to WWE Backlash 2025 later tonight in St. Louis, Missouri. The show will be headlined by Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena, who will take on long-time rival Randy Orton in what is being billed as their final ever match together, before Cena retires later on this year.

On SmackDown, Cena emerged to speak to the audience, cutting another heel promo. During his segment, a beer bottle appeared from the crowd and landed at his feet. Although in the past, at the likes of WCW for instance, throwing trash in the ring was more commonplace, this has become a no-go in terms of modern pro wrestling, protecting wrestlers from discarded objects (such as beer bottles). Cena played the moment into his segment, but appeared legitimately displeased.

Fan footage shared on X by account KCWrestling05 shows the fan in question throwing the bottle, before being apprehended by security and kicked out of the building, as fellow fans lambasted the perpetrator. Cena would eventually be hit with an RKO by Orton to close out the segment. Further details have yet to emerge on what happened to said fan, and if WWE will pursue legal action.
