Sami Callihan retired from professional wrestling after losing a Baltimore Street Fight to Mike Santana at TNA Emergence (on August 15).
In the post-match scene, the 37-year-old independent wrestling veteran left his boots in the ring before heading backstage, having promised to retire if Santana beat him.
On social media afterwards, Sami wrote:
"Everything good in my life is because of wrestling. It was a pleasure. On to the next chapter."
As for why Callihan decided to walk away from in-ring action, Fightful Select noted that he has been struggling a lot physically after having some serious injuries.
Just because he is no longer an active wrestler doesn't mean he won't still be involved in the business, however. As well as helping a lot behind the scenes in TNA lately, Callihan also promotes Pro Wrestling Revolver, which takes up a lot of his time.
The former IMPACT World Champion had previously spoken about ending his career in TNA before hopefully taking a backstage role with the promotion.
