One of the best pro wrestlers in the history of the industry finally called it a career on January 4, 2026 as Hiroshi Tanahashi had his final bow, losing to Kazuchika Okada in front of over 45,000 fans inside the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 20.

Tanahashi – now NJPW President – helped revitalise a promotion that was on the brink after years of Inokism, and he would go on to have some of the best matches in NJPW history alongside great rivals.

Tanahashi would also have legendary runs as the top star of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, as well as plenty of title reigns as he moved down the card during the sunset of his career.
