Jey Uso def. Gunther (c) - World Heavyweight Championship

After Triple H welcomed fans to WrestleMania 41 and a DJ made a brief appearance for some reason, it was time for the opening contest almost 20 minutes into the show as Gunther defended the World Heavyweight Title against Jey Uso. It was mentioned before the match that Jey Uso was 0-6 in world title matches, while Gunther has a 51-3 record in WWE.

Very little happened in the opening moments as Gunther just worked over Jey Uso while Uso appeared to have legitimately hurt his arm slightly from all of the YEETING during his entrance. This continued for the next few minutes until Uso hit Gunther with a Spear out of nowhere, but only secured a near fall.

Uso kept favouring his right arm due to a possible legit injury to his left, with the referee regularly checking on Jey. While this was going on, Gunther connected with a Powerbomb to Uso for a near fall of his own. Jey countered another Powerbomb attempt with a Spear and Uso Splash for another near fall.

Gunther grabbed the World Heavyweight Title belt and hammered Uso with it after the referee had to move out of the way. Gunther followed up with a Splash, but Uso kicked out. Jey then managed to escape a Sleeper Hold by reaching the ropes.

After they went back and forth with Lariats which Uso won, Uso hit a German Suplex before Gunther hit a Shotgun Dropkick and went for a Powerbomb, but Jey escaped it and hit a Powerbomb of his own. Jey followed up with two Superkicks, a Spear, and three Uso Splashes, including one to Gunther's back. Jey Uso then locked in the Sleeper on Gunther for the submission win.

Post-match, Jey Uso celebrated with Jimmy Uso.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) def. The War Raiders (Ivar & Erik) (c) - World Tag Team Championships

The New Day attacked The War Raiders just as the bell rang but the champions soon dominated, with Ivar hitting a Senton to the floor and following up with a Powerbomb in the ring for a near fall. The match then settled down, with both teams enjoying time on top.

Kofi connected with a Trouble in Paradise to Erik, but he ran straight into a Spinning Kick from Ivar. Ivar then killed Kofi with a Moonsault but Xavier Woods broke up the pin with a Flying Elbow.

The champions soon after went for the Viking Experience but it was blocked. The War Machine was then blocked by Kofi and the challengers hit their finisher before Kofi held down Ivar's leg so he couldn't kick out to score the 1-2-3.

The New Day are the new World Tag Team Champions.

Jade Cargill def. Naomi

Jade Cargill went after Naomi with a vengeance and battered her opponent around ringside until Naomi literally clawed her way back into the ring by raking Jade's eyes. Naomi then followed up with an X-Factor to the floor before a Blockbuster from the ring steps.

After several minutes of Naomi dominance, Cargill fought back with a Tilt The World Backbreaker before she blocked a Blockbuster with a Jackhammer. The crowd popped following a Fallaway Slam from Jade and the former AEW TBS Champion was flattened by a Bulldog from the second rope before a Split Legged Moonsault for a near fall.

Naomi locked in the Rings of Saturn, but Jade powered out and hit a ropey-looking Powerbomb in which Naomi almost landed on her neck. Jade then hit Jaded for the win.

Jacob Fatu def. LA Knight (c) - United States Championship

LA Knight went for the BFT early, but Jacob Fatu avoided it and quickly took control, decking the United States Champion with a Pop-up Samoan Drop. Fatu remained on top until Knight eventually fought back with a Death Valley Driver-esque move.

Knight scored a near fall following a Springboard Flying Elbow and he hit a German Suplex from the top rope for another near fall soon after. Jacob Fatu managed to fire back, though, with a Moonsault and he went for another one that was countered into a BFT from LA Knight. That looked to be it but Fatu got his arm to the bottom rope at 2.9.

Fatu managed to fire back with a Samoan Drop and two more Moonsaults for the victory. Jacob Fatu is the new United States Champion.

El Grande Americano def. Rey Fenix

WWE once again billed El Grande Americano as from the Gulf of America, so the presentation change ended up being for one whole show.

Before the match got underway, El Grande Americano ate a kick at ringside from El Hijo del Vikingo. This allowed Rey Fenix to be in control in the early going and he hit a huge dive to the floor. Americano fought back in the ring, though, connecting with a German Suplex. Rey Fenix soon fired back with a Spinning Superkick but he then landed on his head following an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex.

Americano then hit a Reverse 450 Splash and that looked to be it but Fenix managed to kick out. Americano then tried to rip off Fenix's mask before Rey fired back with his Fire Thunder Driver. Americano then retrieved a metal block and placed it in his mask and Fenix injured his foot after kicking the metal block in Americano's mask. Amiercano applied an Ankle Lock on the wrong foot so Fenix escaped. Fenix then went for a Springboard and jumped straight into a headbutt from Americano.

One Flying Headbutt later and Americano defeated Rey Fenix.

Tiffany Stratton (c) def. Charlotte Flair - WWE Women's Championship

The action started out even until Charlotte took control, throwing Tiffany Stratton into the barricade, as Flair received the biggest boos of the night by a country mile. Flair then stole Stephanie Vaquer's move of ramming her opponent's head into the mat with her knees before she used her knees to throw Stratton around the ring and then into the air, before shouting "I'm Her."

Stratton managed to fire back with a Spinebuster but she only managed to score a near fall. Tiffany went for the Prettiest Moonsault Ever but Flair avoided it and followed up with a Big Boot. Stratton had her own counter with a Basement Dropkick. Flair fought back with a huge Big Boot before another one after some shots to the head from Tiffany. Flair then hit a Sit-Out Powerbomb but only scored a near fall.

Later, Flair managed to apply a Figure Four but she failed to bridge into the Figure Eight as Stratton targeted her surgically-repaired knee. Tiffany then loosened the brace and attacked the knee again before Flair used her knees to block a PME. Charlotte then rolled up Stratton and that looked to be it, only for Tiffany to kick out at 2.9.

Flair next hit a Natural Selection from the top rope but Stratton still kicked out as Flair's frustration continued to build. After more taunting and a Chop Block, Flair went for a Figure Eight and multiple counters led to Flair headbutting the middle turnbuckle after missing a Spear. An Alabama Slam into the turnbuckle from Stratton followed before a Rolling Senton and PME for the win.

Tiffany Stratton, with a chipped or missing tooth, is still the WWE Women's Champion.

Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns & CM Punk - Triple Threat

After some very long entrances, the in-ring action began as Roman Reigns took control, beating down CM Punk while barking at Paul Heyman. This barking allowed Punk to send Reigns crashing into the ring post and Rollins took advantage with a Suicide Dive before he threw Reigns into the barricade and then the steel steps.

CM Punk and Seth Rollins ended up brawling into the crowd which included Rollins battering Punk over the head with a trash can. Punk fired back with a Suplex to Rollins on another trash can. The two talents headed to near the ring and were promptly wiped out by a dive over the barricade from Roman Reigns. Reigns moved the action back to the ringside area and used the giant PRIME bottle as a weapon before he continued to work over Punk and Rollins.

Reigns whiffed on a Superman Punch as Punk countered with a Neckbreaker before a Running Knee in the corner after Rollins pushed him. Running knees to Rollins and Reigns in the corner followed before Punk hit a Flying Elbow to Rollins. He couldn't do the same to Reigns as Rollins blocked it, which led to a Doomsday Device to Rollins after Reigns grabbed his former stablemate.

Reigns then connected with a Superman Punch to Punk but only managed to score a two count. Reigns ran straight into a knee from Punk and they failed to hit their finishers before Punk connected with a Rock Bottom and applied the Anaconda Device. The submission was broken with a Frog Splash from Seth Rollins to both of his opponents. Seth remained on top with Buckle Bombs to both Punk and Reigns.

Punk went for a GTS to Rollins but Reigns hit a Spear to Punk. Reigns then went for a Spear to Rollins but Seth countered into a Pedigree. Rollins then hit a Stomp to Reigns and cleared out Punk which gave Reigns enough time to kick out at two. Reigns recovered and hit a Spear to Rollins after Seth missed a Phoenix Splash and Punk took advantage with a GTS to Reigns. Despite taking both finishers, Roman still kicked out at two.

Punk tried and failed to hit another GTS to Reigns and instead received a Pedigree from Rollins. Rollins then told Roman he would be nothing without Shield or The Bloodline before he argued CM Punk was the outsider and they should work together. A conflicted Reigns ultimately decided against working with Rollins, hitting Seth with an Uppercut. He then hoisted up Punk and put him through the announce table with a Powerbomb before doing the same to Rollins.

Reigns threw Seth back into the ring and hit a Spear. That definitely looked to be it, but Rollins kicked out at 2.99. Roman took out his anger on CM Punk asking for a favour from Paul Heyman and locked in a Guillotine on Punk as Heyman looked on with tears in his eyes. Punk countered into a pin for a near fall and then locked in the Anaconda Vice. Rollins got back involved and applied a Sharpshooter to Punk. Reigns then applied the Guillotine to Rollins. Seth escaped with a Northern Lights Suplex, but Reigns didn't relinquish the hold until Reigns hit a Stomp on Reigns. A GTS from Punk to Rollins looked like the finish but Seth kicked out again.

Punk hit another GTS to Rollins, Reigns hit a Spear to Punk, and then Rollins hit a Stomp to Reigns to take out all three competitors. With everyone down, Paul Heyman retrieved a steel chair and shockingly passed it to CM Punk as he shook his head at Roman Reigns. Heyman then climbed into the ring and low-blowed Punk as he went to use the chair, shouting, "Look what you made me do." Heyman then got on his knees and gave the chair to Roman Reigns before Reigns battered Punk over and over again with the chair.

Heyman then directed Reigns to Rollins before Heyman shockingly low-blowed Roman Reigns and handed the chair to Rollins. A steel chair shot to Reigns and a Stomp scored the win for Seth Rollins as WrestleMania 41 night one ended in shocking fashion.
